Organization Overview

For 46 years the Clearwater Free Clinic (CFC) has provided low-income uninsured families access to care for acute and chronic medical issues by means of volunteerism, community financial support and community partnerships. In 2014 a Behavioral Health Program was added to the list of Clinic services to provide integrated healthcare. The clinic, a volunteer driven non-profit, non-government medical facility, provides health care at no cost to those who do not qualify for government assistance and cannot afford private medical care. Those who qualify financially at 200% of the federal poverty guidelines and live in mid or upper Pinellas County are eligible for Clinic services, which include but are not limited to: medical office visits, behavioral health assessments and counseling, medications, lab work, x-rays, specialty referrals, hospital based procedures diabetic counseling, patient education and wellness programs.

Local uninsured families look to local emergency departments for non-emergent care or they will ignore significant health problems not wanting to incur debt and ultimately present in a medical crisis.
In the 2021-2022 fiscal year, the Clearwater Free Clinic received over 9.6 million dollars of donated goods and services with an operating budget of $2.2million. Labwork, x-rays and other diagnostic procedures are donated by local hospitals and radiology groups. Doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dieticians, physical therapists and office assistants, volunteer their time to staff the Clinic. In addition, approximately 70 community medical and surgical specialists see CFC patients in their offices with a referral from a Clinic Doctor. We provide the highest quality medical care possible, in a caring and non-judgmental atmosphere.

The CFC relies on the financial support through individual donations, fundraising events and grant awards. The Clinic does not receive Federal Government or United Way funding.
