Organization Overview
On The Spot Aid, Inc. (OTS) provides medical and support services to homeless and low-income individuals in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties, meeting clients where they are rather than waiting for them to seek care.
At the heart of OTS’s work is its street medical outreach program. Volunteer teams — including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics, and EMTs — operate eight weekly open-air clinics, delivering primary care, wound care, vaccinations, free prescriptions, and health screenings. Teams also distribute safety items like Narcan and connect clients to behavioral health services, Medicaid enrollment, and housing referrals. A ninth clinic in North Port is expected to launch later in 2026.
When clients need a safe place to recover, OTS’s Recuperative Care Program steps in. Rather than returning to the street after hospital discharge, clients receive daily check-ins, medications, nutritional support, and coordination with hospital planners. The program maintains 30-day readmission rates below 9%, compared to 39% for those without this support.
OTS also provides ongoing case management, including transportation to appointments, mental health connections, and patient education to support self-sufficiency.
Across all service areas, OTS prioritizes trust-building with a population that often avoids traditional healthcare systems. By delivering compassionate, no-cost care in non-traditional settings, the organization serves approximately 450 individuals and conducts over 1,200 health interventions each year — helping clients not only recover, but find pathways to stable housing and lasting wellbeing.
