    Organization Overview
Open Door Health Center, Inc. (ODHC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit clinic serving vulnerable, uninsured populations in southern Miami-Dade County—an Area of Critical Need with limited safety net services and high poverty, unemployment, and uninsured rates. Founded in 2001, ODHC was originally focused on migrant farmworkers but now also serves year-round residents, including the working poor and those facing chronic economic hardship.
Approximately 80% of patients are Hispanic, with additional representation from Haitian, Caribbean, and indigenous Mexican and Guatemalan communities. Most do not qualify for Medicaid, and many rely on the clinic for primary, preventive, chronic disease, and behavioral health care—services that help prevent ER overuse and advanced disease progression.
ODHC partners with Baptist Health South Florida, which provides specialty care, pharmaceuticals, and limited funding. A network of 145 volunteer physicians supports referrals, surgeries, and hospital-based care. The clinic’s medical team includes two physicians, a PA, and a part-time pharmacist.
As a long-time FAFCC State Funds Grant recipient, ODHC has consistently exceeded outcome targets. Patients benefit from free labs, medications, and specialty referrals. ODHC also participates in the state’s Sovereign Immunity Program, reducing liability and supporting physician recruitment.
With strong volunteer support and collaborative partnerships, ODHC continues to expand access to quality healthcare for uninsured, low-income residents—demonstrating the urgent need for sustained funding to meet growing demand.
